Petition text:
Robert Allen Zimmerman was born in Duluth, Minnesota.
Bob Dylan was born in New York, New York.
We have started a grassroots campaign to present a gift to the people of New York City commemorating the 50th anniversary of the specific event when Robert Zimmerman stepped foot in Greenwich Village paving the way for Bob Dylan the artist to be conceived. We feel his contributions to the art of music and entertainment is an amalgamation of all his predecessors and successors in spirit. Thus, our gift is a tribute not only to Dylan, but to all these people as well, which will come in a form of a designated area as a permanent fixture in Washington Square Park that will be home to a centerpiece celebrating this event. We are calling the entire plan — the park area and its centerpiece — Eternal Circle.
We intend Eternal Circle to be subsidized by private equity donations that will be used to construct and maintain the centerpiece and the surrounding parkland. We anticipate holding a contest for design concepts open to artists, sculptors, architects, the general public, etc., for Eternal Circle's centerpiece (with one stipulation being the concept must not constitute a statue representing Dylan’s likeness). In addition, we envision Eternal Circle to be a meeting ground in the spirit and tradition of musicians and artists coming together and being free with themselves and their art as they once were, so as to recapture the historical essence and significance of the park which have unfortunately been lost over time.
Eternal Circle goes beyond the notion of recognizing his specific achievements. It’s simply about the fact that he has achieved – something all New Yorkers and beyond all have the potential to do. Bob Dylan exemplifies the ability of each of us to realize our own dreams and potential. This is our celebration. It is infinite. We are all a part of it and it is a part of us all – Eternal Circle.
By signing the petition you will show the world that you stand alongside countless others who want to make Eternal Circle a reality.
